How does Grendel get enticed by the Shaper's song, is it in a sensical way or is it literal? He does have some erratic behavior, mostly violent, but does the shaper have an impact on that? I thought it was just Grendel's nature to destroy and kill. Oh, and in the epic Beowulf, the shaper is really the scop, right?
But, it does seem like Grendel gets his "poetic abilities" from listening to the Shaper sing and dance and tell tales in ways that never could happen. I think the shaper has less of an impact on this book, than in Beowulf. The only thing that the shaper does in this book is motivate Grendel somehow (which, i guess, is the plot), but in Beowulf, the scop tells the whole story from his point of view. Like the swimming race against Breca where they swim into a storm, kill a whale, etc. That must be the scop telling that.
The exact opposite is true in this, the main character (Grendel in this case) is telling about the shaper himself, and the odd mystical spell he puts on Grendel.
